Legal Training

Ashley Taylors Legal Training offers distance learning courses designed for people wanting in-depth knowledge in a particular practice area.

The courses are intended for people already working in the legal profession but have been designed to cater to everyone, whether they have legal experience and knowledge or not.

We currently provide 3 courses:

  • Mortgage Repossession – Institute of Paralegals Accredited Course
  • Debt Recovery (Enforcement) – Institute of Paralegals Accredited Course
  • Infant Settlements

Our distance learning courses have been adapted from our own highly regarded in-house Advocate training course, which all our Advocates must attend and pass before they can work for us no matter what their previous legal experience.

The high standards of instruction that are delivered during the in-house course have been utilized in designing these courses.

These courses have an advocacy focus and have been written by Advocates who generally deal with this type of work on a day-to-day basis, and, so they are based on what happens and not a law book definition of the law.

Overview

Our Mortgage Repossession and Debt Recovery (Enforcement) courses are accredited by the Institute of Paralegals.

This offers members of the Institute of Paralegals on the “route to qualification” to gain 2 years of Legal Practice Experience credit.

It also reduces the legal practice experience requirements from 6 years to 4 years for those working towards the Qualified Paralegal status.

All the courses are presented in modules and follow a traditional approach with home exercises and assessments. There are no time limits on completing the modules although if you are working towards an Institute of Paralegals qualification then they must be completed within 1 year of commencing the course.

Courses are not sold on a module by module basis but the cost of a course can be paid in instalments. The instalments are calculated on the number of modules in the course.

Please see the relevant Course section for the cost of the course. Payment can be made online, by clicking the PayPal button in the relevant course tab, or by phone on 01825 766767.

Please note if the course is being paid in instalments then you will receive the course as individual modules.

Full support is given to any one completing our courses by a personal tutor.

Assessments are marked and returned with comments to assist your studies and enhance your legal knowledge.

Mortgage Repossession - £299 + VAT

This course is 5 modules which interlink and cross reference so need to be completed in sequence.

  • Module 1 – An introduction to mortgages and how to start repossession proceedings

  • Module 2 – Elaborates on the knowledge gained in module 1 and details how to prepare for the court hearing.

  • Module 3 – Following on from module 2 this module explains the Pre-Action Protocol.

  • Module 4 – This module describes how the court hearing is conducted and what an Advocate has to do to get the required court order.

Following completion of module 5 you will be expected to take a final assessment that underpins the knowledge you have gained.

If you are on The Institute of Paralegals’ “route to qualification”, on passing the assessment, we will contact them so you can receive credit for the course.

Debt Recovery (Enforcement) - £299 + VAT

This course is 4 modules. The first 3 modules deal with a specific debt enforcement option and the last module explains other options available.

  • Module 1 – Bankruptcy – The basic principles of Bankruptcy and how to apply for an order in court.

  • Module 2 – Charging Orders - The nature of Charging Orders, the law which governs them and how to obtain the order from the court.

  • Module 3 – Return of Goods – An explanation of Return of Goods Orders, the documentation required and how to prepare for a successful application.

  • Module 4 – Other methods of enforcement - This module discusses other debt recovery options and how to prepare for their applications.

Following completion of module 4 you will be expected to take a final assessment that underpins the knowledge you have gained.

If you are on The Institute of Paralegals’ “route to qualification”, on passing the assessment, we will contact them so you can receive credit for the course.

Infant Settlements - £99 + VAT

This is a very useful single module designed for those working in PI Solicitors, Claims firms or the PI industry.

There are far less of these cases than for adults so the experience to run them is much less limited.

The Court must approve any compensation for infants (anyone under the age of 18) even when the damages are agreed so a Court hearing cannot be avoided.

This module takes you through the steps necessary to:

  • Gain the Courts approval
  • Complete the appropriate investment forms needed and prepare your clients for the hearing.
